What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are intended for the enhancement of a single tooth at a time. Whether your goal is to close a gap between two teeth, improve an imperfection, or to disguise discolouration that has occurred due to an injury or medications, we can customize veneers to improve the appearance of your entire smile by bonding them to several teeth.
Veneers may be fabricated from materials such as porcelain or resin, each of which has advantages and disadvantages that should be considered. Porcelain veneers are more desirable as they are thin, durable and very natural looking. They also tend to resist stains very well, but require more reduction of surface enamel to appear lifelike. While resin veneers may be a bit more conservative in terms of tooth reduction, this material may not reflect light as well as porcelain. During your consultation at Notting Hill Dental Clinic, we will discuss the various aspects of each type of veneer, including Lumineers, enabling you to determine which product is best suited to your needs.
Veneers may be ideal to disguise numerous cosmetic concerns, such as:
- Poor alignment
- Discolouration that cannot be lifted with teeth whitening, such as damage from injury or staining from fluoride or medication
- Chips, fractures, or breaks
- Large gaps
- Poorly shaped teeth
- Worn enamel or tooth structure
Benefits of veneers treatment
The process is completed over two or three visits, which can be scheduled within ten days of one another. Initially, we will determine the type of veneer most appropriate for your needs. We then prepare the teeth, only if needed, accordingly and conservatively and take impressions to create a model of the tooth or teeth we are treating.
This model, along with specifications for size, colour, and shape, is sent to the dental lab where veneers will be crafted from quality materials. In the second visit, final restorations are evaluated for precision and are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth.
